Michael Moore Likens Sanders Supporters to ‘French Resistance’ Under Nazi Occupation
Bernie Sanders supporters must realize they’re “the French Resistance” fighting off a Nazi occupation, filmmaker Michael Moore said at an Ames, Iowa rally Saturday night.
The “Bowling for Columbine” director appeared at the event with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, their third Sanders rally of the weekend.
Moore cited a recent New York Times poll showing Sanders taking the lead among Democratic primary voters as an indication corporate America will soon try undermining his candidacy.
"I’ll tell you who’s read The Times this morning: corporate America, Wall Street, the banks, the insurance companies, the pharmaceutical companies,” Moore thundered. “They couldn’t eat breakfast this morning. They called each other up and they said, 'Holy shit, how did this happen?!' So, so be ready because they’re not gonna let this happen easily.”
Moore then attempted inspiring Sanders supporters to see themselves as anti-Nazi freedom fighters.
“So you know we’re in the French Resistance now right?” Moore said. “You've got to remember the French Resistance right? Nobody in the French Resistance ever said, 'Yeah, I know there’s only nine days for our caucus but, uh, you know I I’ve got a I’ve got to get the kids to soccer this week.' No! The kids can walk the soccer this week! They can walk! Nobody in the French Resistance ever said, 'Yes I’d like to help you stop those Nazis coming down the road there but but, um, we’ve got couples therapy at 4:00 today.' No! No! You have to get along with your spouse for the next week or two, there’s no couples therapy! Just get along! Get along for the greater good of this country!”
“You’re in the French Resistance!” Moore said to cheers. “You’re in the Iowa resistance! You’re in the Iowa resistance! And there is no other thing no other time and now. Land of the free? You want to live in the land of the free? Then you have to start acting like this is the home of the brave, the brave! The brave thing to do is get out there and caucus on February 3rd and bring ten people with you.”
Moore also told Sanders supporters that bragging about their political activism will help in their love life.
“Oh man, you are gonna be the rest of the country is gonna love you so much the morning of February 4th,” Moore predicted. “You know, if you’re single and you’re on one of those dating match.com things, all you've got to just change your profile to say 'I voted for Bernie in Iowa!' You’ll never be alone again."
