Senior U.S. Official: Iran Shot Down Ukrainian Plane By Mistake Killing 176 Passengers

‘I hope the Iranians were providing as much information as they have today’

EXCERPT:

GALLAGHER: “I want to go back, if I can, to the breaking news we learned just a few moments ago, Jennifer Griffin telling us that U.S. officials, and I know this is not your area of expertise, but U.S. officials now saying that they believe, in fact, they have confirmed that Iran shot down that Ukrainian jetliner. Your thoughts on that, sir?"

HURD: "Well, as a member of the House committee on intelligence, we see a lot of intelligence and what I would say is that, if this were the case, I hope the Iranians are providing as much information as they have to the international community, and I hope that they will be forthright on what they know and what they are investigating when it comes to this. I think 176 people were killed, a number of nationalities — there was a lot of Canadians on board. We know it was a Ukrainian aircraft. Is this going to be an opportunity for the Iranian government to share information that they have or they could do what they always do, and that is lie to and mislead the international community. Time will tell.”
