UMich Nixes ‘American Sniper’ After Soph. Complains it Promotes ‘Dangerous Propaganda’

LAMEES MEKKAAOUI, U-Mich. sophomore: “By showing this movie, we feel that the university is tolerating dangerous anti-Muslim and anti-[indecipherable] propaganda. ... For an event like U-MIX, which is supposed to be a fun and safe way to spend your Friday night. This wasn't appropriate to have that kind of movie being played. …  The movie itself, I mean, no one can disagree that it’s provocative and controversial, that’s something nobody can disagree about. It shouldn't be played during an event meant to bring students together."

University of Michigan agreed to cancel the planned screening. “While our intent was to show a film,” the U of M Center for Campus Involvement replied, "the impact of the content was harmful, and made students feel unsafe and unwelcome at our program."
