Power Outage at State Department, D.C. Area

The State Department’s daily press briefing was cut off by the power outage

LEE: "An update now. There is a new video as well on this widespread power outages that we're seeing across D.C.. This is what the State Department looked like. Just a short while ago there was the press briefing that happens every day and as Marie Harf is giving the briefing, you saw the lights then fade and obviously completely go out. State Department is not lonely. You have the Department of Justice, you have the Capitol building, you have the White House, you have the Department of Homeland Security, you have the Department of Energy. You also have metro stations across Washington D.C., some buildings as well. You have the fire department reporting there are some people stuck in elevators but for the most part the big takeaway it is -- and it is hard to say this looking at this picture -- business is as usual or those are trying to maintain it. At the White House we heard from our team were they are awaiting a press briefing that they too had a few seconds of pitch blackness in the basement which, you know, is enough to get your heart racing little bit, John, wondering if you got that flashlight app downloaded on your iPhone or smart device or anything else. So it's good to carry around a headlamp perhaps in case something like this happens."

NN HOST: “You're saying that an explosion at a Southern Maryland power facility is believed to be the cause of all this, but it has affected an awful lot of people in our nation's capital and in Maryland."
