MSNBC: Budget Concerns ‘Esoteric’; GOP Cutting Programs that Keep Vets Alive

‘When you look at how the debate unfolded around the shutdown ... it seemed like an esoteric classroom discussion’

BURTON: "Well when you look at how the debate unfolded around the shutdown, around the debt ceiling talks, it seemed like this esoteric classroom discussion over, you know, how much spending's good spending? What's bad spending? The Mitt Romney takers and doers. and, you know, at the end of the day we're talking about real human costs to the shutdown, real human costs to these mindless cuts, to some of the most important programs that serve, you know, our veterans, but also some of the most vulnerable in our society. So it's a very important discussion for us to have on Veterans Day."
WAGNER: "Especially as parts of the right wing are very pro-defense, pro-military, pro-engagement. This is actually -- these are the people fighting these wars. Go ahead, Josh."
HANSMAN: "One way to be pro-defense that people don't think about, if you look at the biggest deliverers of mental health services, Medicaid is actually one of them, which has expanded greatly under ObamaCare -- in some states, not in other states, but people don't think of that as connecting to people like the veterans struggling for help in this documentary, but they should."
