Al Sharpton: Climate Change ‘Is a Civil Rights Issue’

‘These young people of color are connecting the dots between climate change and its effects on their communities, their futures, and ultimately their children’

EXCERPT:

SHARPTON: "On Friday the world’s youth made a statement to its leaders, do something about climate change. From New York City to Nairobi, Kenya, millions of people, many of them students from more than 150 countries took to the streets for a truly global demonstration against climate inaction. I’m proud to say that among the demonstrators were young people from my organization, the National Action Network. I’m even prouder to say these young people of color are connecting the dots between climate change and its effects on their communities, their futures, and ultimately their children. Joining me now is Diamonique Johnson who led a youth delegation here in New York City. I wanted to have you on because a lot of people do not understand that when the young people went out there yesterday, it made me so proud. I was in Kansas City, and when I heard in several cities some of the people saying this is a civil rights issue as well. Why is that civil rights issue you to you?"
