Immediately following Ted Cruz‘s (R-TX) announcement that he’ll run for president in 2016, NBC political correspondent Kasie Hunt suggested that some elements of the rising conservative star’s pedigree may not appeal to his desired base.

“He grew up in Houston, attended Princeton and Harvard,” Hunt noted to MSNBC host Tamron Hall. ” So, not necessarily the type of pedigree that would immediately seem to appeal to the base of the party, but at the same time those are the voters he is going after here.”
