David Drucker on Justin Amash: He’s Always Sort of Marched to the Beat of His Own Drum

‘He’s never been a mainstream Republican, even pre-President Trump’

EXCERPT:

DRUCKER: “Look, what you see is what you get. He’s never been what you would think of as a mainstream Republican, even pre-President Trump. He’s always sort of marched to the beat of his own drum. Practices what he preaches in terms of really believing in a leaner government that spends less, that’s involved in less, that does less. And that has set himself apart from even a lot of his former Freedom Caucus colleagues. That's the group that decided that they were too conservative for the existing caucus of House Republicans who thought of themselves as conservative, so they started the Freedom Caucus. And Justin Amash was there at the beginning. But even they have proven a lot more flexible, at least since Trump has taken office, when it comes to government spending, whether entitlement should be reformed and things like that. So I don’t think any of this is really that shocking. I do think, ironically, that a lot of what Amash seems to be worried about in terms of extreme partisan politics has sprouted at a time when the political parties are weaker.”
