Sanders: The Function of Health Care Is Not To Make Insurance Companies and Drug Companies Huge Profits

‘People understand we can’t be the only major country on Earth not guaranteeing health care to all people’

EXCERPT:

SANDERS: “All that I know is that the American people know that there is something really absurd that we are the only major country not to guarantee health care to all people as a right. And we end up spending twice as much per person on health care as do the people of any other country, and we pay by far the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. The function of health care -- let me say this over and over again -- is not to make insurance companies and drug companies huge profits, it is to take care of the needs, the health care needs of the American people. That’s what a Medicare for all single payer system would do."
