Fox News: 59,000 Homelessness in Los Angeles Shows Double Digit Increase from Prior Year

‘In L.A., a person needs to make $46 an hour just to pay the median rent’

EXCERPT:

PERINO: "Staggering new stats on homelessness in Los Angeles, with a number of people living on the streets, in cars or in shelters skyrocketing to nearly 59,000, a double digit increase from last year. William La Jeunesse is live in Venice Beach in Los Angeles to help explain this. William?"
LA JEUNESSE: "Dana, we’re at Third and Rose, some locals call it Skid Rows here at Venice. Because of the weather, the beach, as you mentioned, is very close by, people can hang out during the day and not get hassled, and also because of panhandling, the easy cash because of the tourists. That’s why Venice has become kind of a mecca for homelessness. But what's surprised officials about the report that you mentioned, the increase in homelessness, 12 percent in the county, 16 percent in L.A., is despite this booming economy you have  this increase in homelessness,. Why? Well, one reason they say is the cost of housing. In L.A., a person needs to make about $46 an hour just to pay the median rent."
