CMS Head Claims Website Doesn’t Store Social Security Numbers

‘The hub is a router so when you go in and fill an application, it pings, if you will, Social Security’

SEN. HARKIN: "When someone comes on, will they be assured their social security number, for example, will be kept secure, that no one can hack in and take their social security number?"
TAVENNER: "Yes, and remember that the hub does not store any information, the hub is a router so when you go in and fill an application, it pings, if you will, Social Security, it pings the IRS to validate your income, to validate your citizenship, to validate your social security number, but that's not stored. What is stored is in your individual application, which is secure, and that was part of the secure, the identity proofing on the front end, that was a little complicated because we had taken additional steps to make sure that an individual applications are secure. Now in addition to all this we also have continuous monitoring of all systems which is something we do for medicare as well."
