Chuck Todd: ‘Right Now, the Culture Wars Are the Glue that Holds the Republican Party Together’

‘The president is embracing the culture wars’

EXCERPT:

TODD: “The Alabama state Senate passed a near-total ban on abortions. And the reason why it matters so much? Because it’s so much bigger than what’s happening in Alabama. The bill, which would make it a felony for a doctor to perform or attempt an abortion at any stage of pregnancy, even in cases of rape or incest, is a big deal. The pro-life movement's mission to get Roe v. Wade in front of this conservative Supreme Court is a bigger deal. And the President's escalating embrace of the culture wars is perhaps the biggest deal of them all. Because right now the culture wars are the glue that holds the Republican Party together. Republicans are divided on issues like immigration, tariffs and health care as matters of policy. The President hasn’t made those issue referendums on policy so much as he has made them flash points in a larger culture battle.”
