Gen. John Campbell: ISIS Has Established a ‘Fledgling Network’ in Afghanistan

‘We will continue to engage with leaders from both countries on ways we can collaborate to meet this challenge’

"The possible rise of Da'ish or ISIL is also a new development. Thus far we believe that the Da'ish presence in Afghanistan represents more of a rebranding of some the marginalized Taliban. We're still taking this potential threat with the standard rhetoric and ideology very very seriously. We are working very closely with the end staff to evaluate and understand the dynamic nature of this fledgling network. The potential emergence of Da'ish represents an additional opportunity to bring both Afghanistan and Pakistan together to confront this common threat. We will continue to engage with leaders from both countries on ways we can collaborate to meet this challenge. We are all driven to prevent Da'ish from establishing a meaningful foothold in Central Asia."
