Holder: ‘We Are Pushing for an Aggressive Review’ of Texas Immigration Injunction

‘What the president did is totally consistent with the law’

ALLEN: “In your appeal on immigration, the Justice Department appears to argue that if the injunction is not stayed everywhere, it should apply only in Texas, which was the only state that put forth proof of harm. Is that what you’re pushing for?”
HOLDER: “Well, we are pushing for an aggressive review of what one judge in Brownsville, Texas, has done that has had nationwide impact. We’ve asked for a stay there. If that is denied, I’m sure we will take it to a higher court. It would seem to me, though, at a minimum, we ought to be looking at the impact that the judge talked about, and that would be restricted to that one state. But our approach is really to try to reverse what the judge has done, because I think what the president did is totally consistent with the law.”
ALLEN: “How optimistic are you that the president’s policy will go into effect in most if not all states?”
HOLDER: “I think ultimately the president will be seen to have acted in an appropriate way and that the policy changes that he announced will be upheld by the courts.”
ALLEN: “And this is before he leaves office.”
HOLDER: “I think — yes, I think that will happen before he leaves office.”
