Chris Matthews: Rural, Southern Congressman Opposing Exec. Action ‘Speaks for Whites’ (RealClearPolitics)

On MSNBC this afternoon, network host Chris Matthews said Republicans in Congress who oppose funding President Obama's immigration executive action are "speak[ing] for whites." Matthews also said it's "rural people, Southern people" who oppose the funding.

"It's not every Republican," Matthews said on the soon-to-be-canceled Reid Report. "It's not Peter King. It's not the eastern guys. [It's] rural people, Southern people, you know. They don't speak for every American. They speak for the whites basically, the Anglos. It's a stupid term, Anglos, if we're not Hispanic, but it's the term used. I think it's politics. I think the tea party is still very strong in the Republican party."
