Beto O’Rourke: We as a Country Are Beneficiaries of Asylum Seekers

‘They make us a much better country as a result’

EXCERPT:

O’ROURKE: “We should consider TPS, Temporary Protected Status, for people who cannot stay in that country because they are on the verge of starvation, their government can no longer protect them. It's the right thing to do. And to acknowledge that though we must invest in the Northern Triangle countries of Central America. Those who have studied this can attest that investment, not necessarily with governments, and not with military hardware, and not militarizing their police forces, but at the village and community level and reducing violence reduces the need for people to leave is a very smart investment for the United States to make. And then lastly, we should accept and acknowledge that when asylum-seekers come here, when they are allowed to stay, not only do they do better, they make us a much better country as a result. Their families, their kids, the genius they reveal to the world, that all occurs here in the United States of America, and ultimately, we as a country are the beneficiaries. So thank you for asking."
