Sen. Ben Cardin on Surveillance vs. Spying on Carter Page

‘The key point here is let’s get the Mueller Report out there’

EXCERPT:

REPORTER: “But I’m just curious, is this an issue between being surveilled and being spied on? Because we know that Carter Page was surveilled. But then what’s the difference between being surveilled and being spied on?”
CARDIN: “Well, you know,  I’m all for the proper oversight of our agencies, but what this came up in context is to try to put a smokescreen in front of the Mueller report release.  As far as whether surveillance or what was done, there is no indication that this is the cause for the Mueller investigation. The Mueller investigation was caused by what Russia did to the United States and the contacts made with the Trump campaign and individuals. As a result, there have been many indictments. We need to see that report. So, I’m not trying to dodge a question in regards to surveillance and what the FBI is doing etc., but the key point here is, let’s get the Mueller Report out there.”
