John Delaney: The Criminal Justice System Is ‘Racially Unjust’

‘I’ve got an education component, I’ve got a health care component, I talk about criminal justice reform, the things we need to do to reform this’

EXCERPT:

DELANEY: "So, it’s a broad-reaching proposal, it deals with things I want to do in education. How we fund public education in this country is inherently, socially and racially injust. It’s tied to property taxes, that’s unfair. Every kid should have pre-k, low-income kids should have early childhood education. It's by far the best investment we make. I’ve got an education component, I’ve got a health care component as part of my universal health care system, I talk about criminal justice reform, the things we need to do to reform this racially injust system. But what I really talk about is how to create incentives for people to invest in these communities. I believe nothing happens unless someone invests in the people and in the communities. And I laid out a whole bunch of ideas to encourage private and public sector investment in these communities to create jobs, whether it’s creating incubators at historically black colleges, or having a disproportionate amount of my infrastructure dollars go to these communities or whether it's the opportunities on legislation that I led in the Congress to create a federal tax incentive for people to invest. I want to be the president, because I've done this my whole life. The two businesses I started and took public focused on lending money to small to mid-sized companies."
