Neil Patrick Harris: ‘Tonight We Honor Hollywood’s Best and Whitest’

‘Welcome to the 87th Oscars — tonight, we honor Hollywood’s best and whitest — sorry, brightest’

Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, and Anna Kendrick Open Oscars with Musical Tribute to the Movies (Mediaite)

Neil Patrick Harris opened Sunday evening’s 87th Academy Awards broadcast with an original musical tribute to moving pictures (“but maybe not Smurfs 2“), with help from Anna Kendrick andJack Black.

Aside from the lengthy number, which included a CGI inserted Harris into iconic movie scenes fromThe Goonies, Ghost (creepily watching Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore make some clay pottery), the night’s host also kicked off the show with the broadcast’s first race joke: “Tonight we honor Hollywood’s best and whitest — sorry, best and brightest.”
