Jody Hice: ‘President Trump Is Well Within His Legal Authority’ to Declare a National Emergency

‘If we want to deal with the separation of powers issues, that is certainly something that needs to be discussed’

EXCERPT:

FAULKNER: “Why do you have to shore up Republicans to support a Republican president on this?"
HICE: "That’s a good question, Harris. You know, I think of the end of the day the issue for many is the separation of powers, which I fully understand that. But that is really a different issue. The reality is that in 1976 Congress gave the executive branch the authority to have emergency declarations. And as we all know, many of those have been put in place over the decades. And President Trump is well within his legal authority to do so. If we want to deal with the separation of powers issues, that's certainly something that needs to be discussed. But for him to do what he is doing for the southern border, he is totally in line."
