‘ISIS Bride’ Attorney on Her Being Denied Entry to U.S.: Trump Is ‘Undermining Birthright Citizenship’

‘I almost cry myself to sleep everyday because I know when I do get back, I will be sentenced to jail’

EXCERPT:

LAWRENCE (voice-over): "Hoda Muthana left her Alabama home in 2014 to become apart of ISIS. The 24-year-old mother of one tells ABC News she now wants to return home."
MUTHANA: "I almost cry myself to sleep every day because I know that when I do get back, I probably will be sentenced to jail for I don’t know how much time."
LAWRENCE (voice-over): "She called for the killings of Americans on Twitter, but has since said she was brainwashed and regrets those statements."
SHIBLY: "What she's actually asking is to be held accountable to our legal system, to have the due process that any American citizen is entitled to."
LAWRENCE (voice-over): "Attorney Hassan Shibly says Muthana was born in the U.S. months after her father resigned as a diplomat for Yemen. But Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says Muthana is not a U.S. citizen and President Trump does not want her to come back."
SHIBLY: "He's saying that the United States doesn't have jurisdiction over her. And in doing that, not only is he giving her a free pass but he’s essentially undermining birthright citizenship, something that he’s actually been trying to do for quite some time now.
LAWRENCE (voice-over): "Her family filed a lawsuit challenging the government's claim that Muthana is not a U.S. citizen."
MUTHANA: "I will try to help people not make the same mistake that I have."
