WSJ’s Holliday: Whitaker on the Record a Big Reason He’s Being Pushed To Answer Questions He’s Uncomfortable With

‘The way he answer that question raised more questions about whether or not he actually had inside information’

EXCERPT:

HOLLIDAY: “And there were a lot of questions about whether or not Whitaker was sort of a middleman or if he put pressure on Robert Mueller to rebuff that, or if he was involved in any way. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear that question, it’s unclear if Whitaker would actually answer it, but I do think we have to kind of take a step back and realize part of the reason Whitaker is in a bit of a corner is because he did go on the record voluntarily at that Huawei press conference, when the justice Department indicted Huawei. And he was willing to answer questions. He said he had been briefed, as you mentioned, he said that he believes the investigation would wrap up soon, the way he answered that question raised more questions about whether or not he actually had inside information and knew when the report was coming, but I think he going on the record himself voluntarily is a big reason why he’s sitting here and sort of being pushed to answer a lot of questions he’s not comfortable answering."
