CNN’s John Avlon: Nothing Says Socialism Like Trump’s Plan to Seize Private Property for a Border Wall

‘The president plans to use eminent domain to take land for parts of his border wall’

EXCERPT:

AVLON: “We all know the Trump administration is obsessed with illegal immigration but behind the scenes it's also in a quiet war with legal immigration. Trump’s blasted what he calls chain migration where family members follow each other legally into the country despite the fact that the first lady’s family is here on that plan. The Trump's made it harder to get certain visas, even simple visitor visas which dropped more than 10 percent under Trump according to 'Politico.' He’s curtailed visas for same-sex partners of foreign diplomats, he's dramatically reduced the number of refugees seeking asylum in our country and is even trying to deport some Vietnamese war refugees who have been here for decades. So, what’s behind this? Well, former Trump staffer Cliff Sims' new book 'Team of Vipers' quotes Stephen Miller saying, 'I would be happy if not a single refugee foot ever again touched American soil.' So, when the president said he wants more people to come to our country in the largest numbers ever, don’t believe the hype. And then there is this little irony. While the president blasted socialism he denounced, quote, government coercion, domination and control. So it's worth noting that the president plans to use eminent domain to take land from private citizens to build parts of his border wall. Last time I checked, nothing says Socialism quite like seizing private property for a government goal. And that’s your reality check."
