Rep. Pete Aguilar: Declaring National Emergency Is Not Going To Go Over Well with the American Public

‘We don’t feel he should declare a national emergency’

EXCERPT:

BOULDUAN: "And of course a few things, and he argues that more wall is needed, not just the mileage that is already there. And not just fixing it, building new wall. We have heard that over and over again. He now says the new wall is being built as we speak. The president is not expected to do this, but if he does tonight announce that he is going to declare a national emergency which would be to go around Congress to get the money, additional funding for the wall, what does that do to your talks?"
AGUILAR: "Well, look, I mean, the president should insert himself into these discussions. That would be truly unfortunate. If he does make that declaration it's not going to go over well with the American public and with my colleagues in Congress on both sides of the chamber. We don’t feel he should declare a national emergency. So, look, all we can control is having those conversations, working in a bipartisan way. I have confidence in the negotiators and the negotiations that we can continue to make progress on these issues."
