Whoopi Goldberg to Kanye West: You Don’t Get To Decide Who the Real Artists Are (Mediaite)

After Kanye West Kanye’d Beck during last night’s Album of the Year presentation at the Grammy Awards, he told reporters that the singer-songwriter should “respect artistry” and give his award to Beyoncé. In response, The View’s Whoopi Goldberg had some strong words for the rapper.

“As an artist, Kanye, you know what it’s like when somebody questions your artistry,” Goldberg said. “Now, I don’t know if you listened to Beck’s album, but it was pretty damn good. And Beyoncé collecting three Grammys [in other categories] and I think it’s kind of rough to say ‘real artists’ like he’s not a real artist.”

“Everybody on that stage was a real artist, honey,” she added. And apparently, that includes AC/DC.

Confronted by TMZ on the issue Monday morning, Kanye clarified his comments, saying, “I wasn’t saying Beck, I said the Grammys. Beck knows that Beyoncé should have won.”
