Cliff Sims: I Never Heard Trump Says Anything Racist in Private

‘I’ve never heard Donald Trump say anything in private, acting any way in private that made me think in any way he had a racist bone in his body’

EXCERPT:

SIMS: "I spent a lot of time in this book trying to help people make sense of what makes Donald Trump tick, the way he approaches the decision making process. I’m not trying to convince you to be for him or against him, but just see him firsthand what it looks like. And one of those is the Charlottesville incident. I go through that in a chapter in the book, I talk a lot about that. My experience is very similar to yours. I’ve never heard Donald Trump say anything in private, act in any way in private that made me think in any way he had a racist bone in his body. The Charlottesville incident, though, I think he felt under siege, I think he felt attacked and his instinct is to punch back and double down. But I do think that those are opportunities that were missed to really bring racial reconciliation and healing in a way the president only can because he’s got that giant megaphone, that giant platform. Certainly would have liked to see that a little bit more."
