House Agriculture Committee’s Maloney: Shutdown Is Manufactured Crisis

‘Humanitarian crisis is real, but we have made it worse, not better’

EXCERPT:

MALONEY: "What is manufactured is a shutdown of the government. That is the manufactured crisis. The humanitarian crisis has been made worse by policies that include separating kids from their parents, by treating political asylum seekers as though they were criminals when we can run them through a legal process, and if they don’t qualify, they will be sent back. What happened was a humanitarian crisis is real, but we have made it worse, not better. And the shutdown of government takes it to a whole other level, which is irresponsible and unnecessary."
