Peter King on Deaths of Migrant Kids: ‘There Is No Evidence that ICE Did Anything Wrong Here’

‘Obviously those deaths are tragic’

EXCERPT:

KING: "Obviously, those deaths are tragic, certainly any time kids die it’s terrible but as far as I know, there is no evidence that ICE did anything wrong here. They did bring the child to the hospital, the hospital examined them, gave them medication and told ICE what to do, and then when the child became sick again, they brought him to the hospital almost immediately. I think anytime you have conditions like this when people are coming up, many of whom are in bad health to begin with, they are living in terrible conditions, this can happen. I know in New York City in housing projects you hear kids dying. Unfortunately, people living in those conditions, that can happen, and I do applaud the Secretary for going to see if there’s anything more that can be done but I think it’s wrong to be blaming ICE. They’ve had hundreds of thousands of people that they've had custody of over the years and I think these are the only two children that have died, certainly in recent memory. Considering all of that, and considering what does happen in housing projects across the country, I think ICE has an excellent record and I’d be very reluctant to be doing any piling on here right now to make political points at this."
