Dick Durbin: ‘We Are Close To Achieving Something Significant So That We at Least Have Some Sanity in Criminal Sentencing’

‘So we don’t over-sentence those involved in nonviolent drug offenses, people willing to cooperate with our government’

EXCERPT:

DURBIN: "Well, I can tell you, I have been working on it for five years, and I'm not quitting. We are close to achieving something significant so that we at least have some sanity in criminal sentencing, so we don't oversentence those who are involved in nonviolent drug offenses, people who are willing to cooperate with our government. Let's use this money to make sure that recidivism is reduced and repeat criminals don't get released on the street."
