Axelrod: ‘Nuts’ in Hershey Pushing Bill that Would Be ‘Death Knell’ of Republican Party

‘Their problem is they’re not just sweets in Hershey this weekend — There’s nuts as well’

WAGNER: "David here's what I don't understand. Frank and I were beginning to talk about this before the segment began. If you remember the base and you feel marginalized and you need a sign from party leadership that your concerns matter, doesn't a fake bill destined to die, or go no further, infuriate a bunch of really angry people?"
AXELROD: "Their problem is they're not just sweets in Hershey this weekend. There's nuts as well. They have to deal with some of these people in their base. It's not just that they don't want to pass the bill. They understand that if they did, it would be a suicidal impulse for the Republican Party going into 2016. So I have to believe the people most rooting for them to kill the bill are people trying to become the Republican presidential nominee. Because this would be the death knell for the Republican Party. Another death knell with Hispanic voters around the country."
