Craig Melvin: Undocumented Immigrants Are Not Evacuating Because They Are Afraid of ICE

‘They did not want to go to a shelter because they were afraid they might get rounded up by ICE’

EXCERPT:

MELVIN: "We spent sometime in a mobile home park and we talked to some undocumented immigrants who were living in this mobile home pack and they told us that they did not want to go to a shelter because they were afraid they might get rounded up by ICE. Since that report, we got a statement. I want to share the statement with our listeners and our viewers. I got the statement a few hours ago from the federal government. This is a statement from ICE: 'Our highest priority remains the preservation of life and safety. In consideration of these circumstances, there will be no immigration enforcement initiatives associated with evacuations or sheltering related to Florence, except in the event of a serious public safety threat.'"
