Stirewalt: ‘We Need Populism When the System Gets Out of Whack, When the Elites Have Too Much’

‘Trump led a counter charge against the one Obama did’

RUSH EXCERPT:

MACCALLUM: "Give us the parallels you see with Jackson, Roosevelt and trump?"

STIREWALT: "I thought about this today. Barack Obama over the weekend was talking about how he was decrying trump. It feels like a different brand from Obama. It’s a different set of voters. An appeal to working class white voters and Obama talked to a different group. Obama was lamenting the divisiveness. Well, it was pretty good for you when you were doing it and when you were running in 2008 and you were building straw men and using a more subtle kind. Populism is appealing because the guy who comes says I will fix it for you, not those suckers. Trump led a counter charge against the one Obama did."
