Peter King: We Saw Another Example of the ‘Changing Face of Terrorism’ in Sydney

‘They are inspired by what they hear from ISIS ... it shows to me the need for increased surveillance’

"What we saw today tough is the changing face of terrorism and the new threats from terrorism that does not necessarily have to come from a card carrying member or official member of ISIS or any of the other al Qaeda-type organizations. It can be a sympathizer, it can be a fanatic, it can be someone on the edge. We've seen that in Canada. We've seen that in New York with the deranged person with an ax who attacked the police officer in Queens. But they were inspired by what they hear from ISIS. That's really -- I really want to say here that it's this climate created by ISIS which is new, it's appealing to people, not just who are members, but people on the edge, on the periphery.

And it's a real challenge to police and law enforcement because there has to be I think intense scrutiny, intense surveillance, looking for any possible indicators of somebody who can act like this. And even then it will be tough but it shows to me the need for increased surveillance, heavy surveillance and to get as many sources as we can into these communities were these type of lunatics may come from. And not just lunatics, people who are on the edge and who have this Islamist leanings."
