Walters to David Koch: If You’re a ‘Social Liberal,’ Why Fund Conservative Candidates?

‘What I want these candidates to do is support a balanced budget’

Barbara Walters to David Koch: If You’re a ‘Social Liberal,’ Why Do You Fund Conservative Candidates? (Mediaite)

Billionaire and conservative fundrasier David Koch sat for a rare interview with Barbara Walters as one of her Most Fascinating People of 2014 Sunday morning, and said he was well within the legal limits with his campaign contributions meant to effect his fiscal conservatism across the nation. (That the Koch Brothers wield considerable influence through groups like Americans for Prosperity was apparently not up for discussion.)

Koch told Walters he was a fiscal conservative but social liberal. Walters pointed out that the candidates he funded were staunchly opposed to positions he supported, such as the legalization of gay marriage and a right to choose.

“That’s their problem,” Koch replied. “What I want these candidates to do is support a balanced budget. I’m very worried that if the budget is not balanced inflation could occur and the economy of the country could suffer mightily.”
