Van Hollen on ‘Cromnibus’: ‘This Is Really Congress at its Absolute Worst’

‘It is not the way to do business, it’s an embarrassment to the Congress and to the public, and we should not be doing business this way’

“I’m sorry to report, this is really Congress at its absolute worst. Yes, of course, we should pass a funding bill for the United States government for a full year. What we should not do is wake up one morning with a 1600 page bill that has these special interest riders attached that have nothing do with funding the U.S. government. As you reported, they provide this big break to the big banks and put taxpayers back on the hook for bad decisions and gambling of the big banks, and at the same time open the doors wider to special interest contributions to congressional political parties. So it’s, 'Here is your tax break and, by the way, if you want to say thank you, just make more contributions to congressional campaign committees.' It is not the way to do business. It’s an embarrassment to the Congress and to the public. And we should not be doing business this way.”
