Engel on CIA Report: CIA Operatives Were ‘Betrayed,’ ‘This Is About Settling Scores’

‘They did something that they were asked to do, that was brutal and that you wouldn’t want to air in public, and now they’re being scrutinized for it’

NBC's Richard Engel on Senate CIA Report: CIA Operatives Were "Betrayed," "This Is About Settling Scores" (RealClearPolitics)

NBC's Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel reacted to the CIA torture report on HardballTuesday evening. Engel says he can "feel a sense of betrayal" on behalf of CIA operatives after the release of this report.

"The CIA felt it had authorization to do this," Engel told MSNBC's Chris Matthews. "And now we have a change of administration and they're being punished for it. So I can feel a sense of betrayal on their behalf as well, that they did something that they were asked to do, that was brutal and that you wouldn't want to air in public, and now they're being scrutinized for it."

Earlier today, Engel said Senators were "quite happy with the intelligence" at the time and believed this is about Senate Democrats "settling scores" with the CIA.
