Fox News: New Texas Poll Shows Cruz Challenger Only 2 Points Down

A Texas Lyceum Group poll of more than 800 registered voters in the Lone Star State shows Cruz only two points ahead of El Paso Democratic Rep. Robert “Beto” O’Rourke — 36 percent to 34 percent

PERINO: "Let me ask you about a poll, I’ll go to Texas, this was a little bit of a surprise, this morning the Texas Lyceum group poll showing that Ted Cruz is just two points ahead of Beto O'Rourke, Ted Cruz the incumbent, popular senator down there, but Beto O’Rourke on his heels. I wouldn't know that the Quinnipiac poll came out today saying that Ted Cruz is up 49-43. But that race, Dave, is probably closer than Ted Cruz would like."

BROWN:" I think it’s very fair to say it’s closer. I thought it was striking, I think last week, when an incumbent sitting senator Ted Cruz challenges Beto O'Rourke to five debates. That’s crazy, an incumbent wants to debate, that speaks to his sense of weakness of his position. Beto O'Roure is running an interesting and compelling campaign, both in terms of the small dollar donations he’s generated and keeping up financially with Senator Cruz, but he's also running on kitchen table issues that are really resonating, whether it’s ensuring affordable healthcare, whether it’s ensuring that folks are able to have a living wage."

PERINO: "He’s been doing it in a different way, with Facebook live. Collin, the last word, the Democrats have had this dream of flipping Texas blue. Are their dreams to be dashed again this year?"

REPORTER: "Yes, Texas is fool's gold for the Democrats. Cycle after cycle, they try out these lines about how they're going to make it competitive, and they never do, the Republican usually wins, I’m confident that will happen this November as well in the state of Texas."
