House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) ratcheted up the political rhetoric during a press conference on Thursday when she claimed that the Supreme Court’s decision regarding Janus v. American Federation of State had done violence to democracy in America.

The Supreme Court ruled by a 5-4 decision Wednesday that public sector unions cannot require non-union employees to pay “agency fees” to those unions.

“Now, yesterday, they did violence to our democracy by trying to diminish the voices of working people,” Pelosi said. “That’s not the American way. Their decision does violence to the First Amendment.”
