MSNBC’s Velshi Reads From Bible to Fact-Check Jeff Sessions’ Defense of Border Policy (Mediaite)

Ali Velshi got Biblical on Friday when he challenged the Trump Administration for using the Good Book to justify their policy to take migrant children away from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The MSNBC host noted that Attorney General Jeff Sessions cited Romans 13 to defend the policy, and he also reminded viewers of how CNN’s Jim Acosta challenged Press Secretary Sarah Sanders by asking her to explain how it’s Biblically justified.

Since Velshi figured “What would Jesus do?” was a valid question to consider here, he opened a Bible to find out what God teaches about how countries need to seal themselves off from the desperate and the oppressed. Velshi couldn’t find much on that, but he did notice that the Bible teaches people to be righteous to the stranger, aid the suffering, and not reject the needy.
