Steven Mulroy: SCOTUS Bakery Ruling Suggests Other Civil Rights Commissions and States Should Watch What They Say

‘But other than that, I don’t really know what lesson we learn from the case’

EXCERPT:

MULROY: "The court dodged all those questions and just said, on these particular facts here in Colorado, the Colorado Civil Rights Commission acted in such a way that seemed to telegraph a look of respect for the sincere religious views of this one baker. So in this one case, we are going to go for the baker and not for the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. As to your second question, what, if anything, does this tell us about future cases? I would say not a lot. I think it does suggest that other civil rights commissions and other states going forward should watch what they say and make sure that they are respectful toward people. But other than that, I don’t really know what lesson we learn from this case."
