Billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer compared himself to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his “Need to Impeach” campaign against President Trump to the Civil Rights movement during an interview on Sunday.

CBS4 News’ (Miami) Jim DeFede asked Steyer what he thought about Democrats who don’t support Steyer’s impeachment campaign because they think it helps Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections.

“You know, in American history, every time there’s been an important but awkward truth, there have been political insiders like the ones you’re describing that have explained, ‘This is not the time,'” Steyer said. “When the Civil Rights movement was coming along, everyone explained to Dr. King, ‘This is early. We’ll get there, but please keep your mouth shut. You’re causing problems.'”
