Gayle King Grills Paul Ryan on Exit: Did You ‘Compromise Your Personal Values’ For Trump? (Mediaite)

CBS News’s Gayle King pressed House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday morning over his relationship with President Trump and his decision to not pursue re-election.

As the outgoing House Speaker spoke with CBS, King brought up the critics who wondered why Ryan rarely stood up to Trump over his various controversies, even when they were “personally offensive to you.” Ryan insisted that he has “very good dialogue” with the president, that he’s happy with the GOP’s political accomplishments, and that his retirement from Capitol Hill has nothing to do with any “Trump fatigue.”

King continued to grill Ryan on whether Trump’s antics ever made his job more difficult, asking him “do you ever feel that you had to compromise your personal values to play along and get along?”
