MSNBC: Trump to Roll Out Plan to Combat Opioid Epidemic, May Include Death Penalty

‘This is a controversial plan, and it calls for basically tougher penalties, tougher ways for dealing with this, including the possibility of the death penalty for drug traffickers’

WELKER: "Now, President Trump signaled he was going to make this announcement on Saturday when he was at that rally in Pennsylvania. He talked about the fact, and I’ll give you a little bit of a quote, the fact that folks who — someone goes out and shoots somebody or kills somebody, they go away for life. And then he said, 'But drug traffickers, you can kill thousands of people and go to jail for 30 days. They can catch a drug dealer. They don’t even put them in jail.' Still, this notion of giving the death penalty to drug traffickers, highly controversial and something that would require an act of Congress. This is not something that President Trump would be able to do unilaterally. Again, he’s going to be calling on members of his Cabinet to help him enact these very tough proposals."
