Stein: House Intel Republicans Will Be ‘Humiliated’ When the Other Russia Reports Come Out

‘In some ways it kind of reminds me of the unmasking scandal and the FISA memo’

EXCERPT:

STEIN: "In some ways it kind of reminds me of the unmasking scandal and the FISA memo, which it may be a stretch to compare these, but the pattern seems vaguely similar. The Republican leadership on the House Intelligence Committee tries to find a short term political gain by rushing something out, distracting headlines, only to — and we’re speculating here, but I think it's fair — later down the road be embarrassed by what they did. In this case it seems pretty likely that the House Intel leadership will be embarrassed, if not humiliated, by this product. Because there are two more reports to come out on the same topic. One is the Senate Intelligence Committee and one is the Mueller investigation. Whereas the House has wrapped up their business without talking to Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, George Papadopoulos, without compelling testimony from key White House aides on these topics, those two other committees and investigators will have that data and they will reach diametrically different conclusions and we’ll look back and say, 'Wow, how did the House GOP Intelligence Committee end up here?' And the answer will of course be that they rushed their investigation and it looks like they’re providing political cover for the administration."
