Shepard Smith Rips Trump Gun Control Claim: ‘Just Not Factually Accurate’ (Mediaite)

President Trump claimed today that there’s “not much political support” for raising the firearm age limit to 21, but Fox News’ Shepard Smith said this afternoon that’s just false.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was grilled today on the President seeming to back off some gun proposals, with reporters outright asking her if Trump himself is “petrified of the NRA” (like he accused other Republicans of being).

As soon as the briefing ended, following an exchange with Huckabee Sanders over age limits, Smith said this:

“That’s not true. It’s just not factually accurate. There is broad-based support for raising the gun age limit. There is a limit of 21 on handguns and they’re talking about doing it for everyone else. The President said to the kids at Parkland, ‘I’ll go strong on this, I’ll work on this age thing.’ He came up to the general public and said to the Congress, ‘The NRA has a lot of pressure on you, but not on me so much.’ And then he met with the NRA.”
