Rep. Hensarling on Tariffs: Trump Had Better Be Very Careful Here or ‘He’s Going to Walk Back a Lot of the Good He’s Done’

‘I fear we’re going to take several steps back if this ends up for some kind of tit for tat trade war’

EXCERPT:

HENSARLING: "I’ve heard from two different employers that use steel, one makes shelving for people like Walmart and another uses it for kind of industrial buildings. And they both tell me they’re very concerned. They’re concerned that the price that they charge their customers is going to have to go up. I hope that doesn’t lead to any lay-offs, but they’re concerned about it. And at the end of the day, I know the president has done so much to help our economy, to help working families and I fear we’re going to take several steps back if this ends up for some kind of tit for tat trade war. And so, I’m adding my voice to others urging the president to -- to move with extreme caution here and take a very surgical approach and let's deal with those that aren't playing by the rules, but those that produce a better product at a cheaper price. You know, we have consumers who are benefiting from that. We have employers who use that imported steel. And the president had better be very, very careful here or he's going to walk back a lot of the good he’s done."
