Ruth Marcus: Hillary Clinton Is in a ‘Post-Feminist Role’ So ‘She Can Say Anything’

‘She doesn’t have to worry about whether she is looking strong enough’

[clip starts]
CLINTON: "In my discussions with him after he [Obama] offered me a job here in Chicago, and  I said 'no.' And I said 'no' again. And I said 'no' again, and finally, I just gave in. And as I said to somebody the other day, I told my husband 'no', and  'I wouldn't get married.' And 'no' again. So I have a history with charismatic, attractive men who just wear me out." (Laughter)
[clip ends]
MARCUS: “Wow. I guess I might get myself in trouble here, but I guess 'no' sometimes means 'yes.' What I thought was really striking about this was the degree to which she is almost in this kind of post-feminist role.”
ANDREA MITCHELL: “She can say anything.”
MARCUS: “She can say anything. She doesn’t have to worry about whether she is looking strong enough. She can say, 'Oh,well, these guys swept me off my feet.' And nobody needs to worry, I don’t think, about whether Hillary Clinton is going to be strong enough to stand up to a Vladimir Putin if she’s the president of the United States.”
