Rep. Schiff on Russia Probe: ‘Had We Been Doing This Right, We Would Have Had a 9/11-Like Commission’

‘We should not view ourselves as prosecutors and defense counsel’

EXCERPT:

SCHIFF: "But, you know, what I urge my colleagues and our committee is, we should not view ourselves as prosecutors and defense counsel. We should all be investigators. The President is not their client. The American people are their client and our client as well. But that’s a little bit, I think, about the different nature of the investigations and the different bodies. What I have advocated from the very beginning, which was more attractive at the very beginning, we ought to be doing this jointly, it should be a bicameral, bipartisan investigation. We’re interviewing the same witnesses that the Senate Intel Committee is and duplicating a lot of effort. And given we both have limited staffs, it would be much more efficient if we were working together to parcel out the tasks. That's water under the bridge at this point. But had we been doing this right, we would have had a 9/11-like commission and we would have had, as we did after 9/11, a joint Senate-House Intel investigation."
