Panetta Responds to Biden Criticizing His Book: ‘You Don’t Put History on Hold’

‘I want this president to succeed, but I also want this president to learn the mistakes from the past, learn the lessons from the past’

"I’m a believer that you don’t put history on hold, that the reality is you speak  to what you believe history is all about and the American people will be able to make the judgment as to what is right or wrong.

The reality is that I want this president to succeed, but I also want this president to learn the mistakes from the past. Learn the lessons from the past. And frankly, he is beginning to do that in terms of how he is approaching ISIS, locating troops in Afghanistan -- 10,000 troops in Afghanistan, and conducting the air attacks that have to be done. I think he's beginning to learn those lessons. There is reason why we shouldn’t talk about the mistakes that are made in order to make sure we never do that again."
