Oneida Tribe Member Likens 'Redskins' Name-Change Effort to Fight Against Slavery (National Review)

A member of the Oneida Indian Nation compared his opposition to the Washington Redskins’ name to some of the United States’ most historic fights, such as against slavery and for women’s suffrage.

“History is littered with people who have vowed never to change something — slavery, integration, women’s rights,” Ray Halbritter, one of the leading voices pushing to change the name, told CNN on Tuesday afternoon. “We think one thing that is really great about this country is when many people speak out, change can happen.”
